Purpose of Meeting
Storytelling & Genealogy with Community Paducah.
CommUNITY Paducah is thrilled to announce our upcoming Storytelling & Genealogy session! Join us for an engaging afternoon featuring special guests Herbert Martin and Roy Hensel.
Herbert Martin, an accomplished African American architectural designer, has had a remarkable journey. Over the course of his life, he advanced through firms during a time when few employers hired Black professionals. He later wrote classroom curriculum and taught school in Kentucky, and eventually became an inventor and children’s book author. Herbert will share fascinating stories about his family and his inspiring career!
Meanwhile, Roy will take us on a journey through his parents' immigration to America and share highlights from his recent trip to Europe. He’ll recount the inspiring story of his grandmother, who boarded a ship at just 19 years old, traveling from her birthplace in Rotterdam, Holland, to Ellis Island.
In addition to our speakers, Roy will lead a beginner writing session to help us start documenting our own family stories to pass down to our loved ones. I’ll provide pencils and paper, but feel free to bring your laptops if you prefer!
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community, learn from one another, and celebrate our shared history.
Don’t miss out! We can’t wait to see you there!
Bring your friends and family—everyone is welcome!
