The McCracken County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program 2026 theme is “Unearth a Story.” We will have programs and reading challenges for all ages in June and July at McCracken County Public Library. We want to get the whole community into the Library this summer! We will have a kick-off party for our summer reading programs on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 2-4 pm on the Plaza in front of the Library! We will have Giant Dinosaurs, frozen drinks from Southern Slush, face painting, games, and giveaways!
2026 Summer Reading sponsor Atmos Energy will bring their Grill Truck and provide hot dogs for the community, and Kick-off Sponsor WKMS will provide music for the event!
Summer Reading Programs and educational play are particularly important for school age children to prevent “summer slide.” According to The Kentucky Department of Education, children may lose up to three months of literacy and numeric skills during summer break when they aren't practicing what they have learned over the past school year. Summer Reading Programs at the Library help prevent summer slide for kids and bring whole families together for free fun and educational events!
Stay tuned for Reading Challenge information for all ages!
