It’s been a while since I posted a new order, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t made new orders. There are at least 3, maybe 4 represented here, but I’m going to smush them all together into one long list.
Many of these were ordered so long ago that they’re actually here on the shelf.
The February order contains lots of blockbusters and well-known TV series, including, of course, Clint Eastwood’s telling of the story of Chris Kyle, American Sniper. Also headlining this order is the also-Oscar-nominated Inherent Vice, starring a personal favorite actor, Joaquin Phoenix and the movie that would probably be more accurate if Michael Bay had written the Bible, Exodus: Gods and Kings.
Or, the unexpected virtue of this awesome DVD order.
The 2015 Oscar nominations just came out (more about my thoughts on them in a future post), so this order makes sure the library is fully stocked on all major nominees. I’ve also begun to work through some of the more popular patron requests that I have received (there’s something like 150-160 titles in my requests file), as well as ordering new releases.
Here’s the first order of 2015:
Archer (Season 5)
As Above, So Below
The Best of Me
Better off Ted (Seasons 1 & 2)
Birdman, or, the unexpected virtue of ignorance *Oscar nominee
Black Sails (Season 1)
Boardwalk Empire (Season 5)
Bones (Seasons 4 & 6)
Boyhood *Oscar Nominee
Boyz N the Hood
Dear White People
Dumb and Dumber To (oddly, not an Oscar nominee)
Heroes (Season 1 & 2)
Horrible Bosses 2
The Imitation Game *Oscar nominee
Interstellar *Oscar nominee
The Interview (don’t tell North Korea I ordered this)
You know what’s not missing? Great DVDs at the library!
This order is all about quality over quantity. Just 11 titles, but each one of them is a movie or TV show that you do not want to miss. Most, if not all, of these titles will show up on award nomination lists in the near future.
It’s time for another DVD order! There’s some weird ones, as you can see from the Horns trailer above, plus Kevin Smith’s Tusk, and the always-bizarre TV show Shameless.
There aren’t many DVD movie releases in December and early January, so this includes mostly patron requests and a few new seasons of TV.
Spoiler alert: the next order (coming later this month) will include the new seasons of Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones, due to be released in late January and early February, so keep your eyes open.
Watch these movies or I’ll burn this place to the ground!
The bulk of this order is made up of Tyler Perry reorders. Anything he makes instantly becomes one of the most popular items in the DVD section, and many of his most popular movies and plays are seriously showing their age. Nearly every title of his has been reordered. The best part is, this gives us a chance to re-catalog some items to get all of his movies in the same place together, helping patrons and staff find them faster.
The cart also contains some very cool new releases, and a few patron requests.
This order continues a new project to rid the collection of unused items, and replace them with the titles that are already popular with patrons, or which are widely requested.
If you see some empty shelves in the DVD section, or if I’m out there pulling titles off the shelf like crazy, don’t worry, those areas will soon be filled with new TV and movies, as well as some other things that we’re thinking about that we’ll talk about later. Oh, and Midsomer Murders will return! We’re just trying to combine episodes where we can.
For now, here’s the list this week. Again, it mostly includes things we already have, but that we needed more copies of. Let us know on Facebook or Twitter which ones you’re most excited about!
August, Osage County
The Blacklist (Season 1)
Body of Proof (Seasons 1 & 3)
The Gatekeeper (This was by far our most-checked-out item in the collection. Who knew?)
You know that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine ruins Frank’s TV Guide by dripping gyro sauce all over it? And then the ever-so-creepy Ricky (played by Sam Lloyd) brings her a bouquet of flowers made from a TV guide and proclaims, upon seeing Twilight Zone on TV, “oh, this is a good one!” Yeah, he could have just as easily been talking about this order (which is actually like 6 orders all smushed together).
